Find out if your property is eligible for Help to Heat funding.

The government is investing £12 billion in Help to Heat schemes to make sure homes are warmer and cheaper to heat. This includes the:

  • Boiler Upgrade Scheme
  • Home Upgrade Grant phase 2
  • Sustainable Warmth Competition
  • Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund
  • Energy Company Obligation
  • Great British Insulation Scheme

This funding is not delivered directly by the government, but through installers, local authorities, energy companies and other bodies.

Support through installers

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme provides grants to property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps.

Support through your local authority

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) provides energy efficiency measures and low carbon heating to low income households living in the worst performing, off gas grid homes in England to tackle fuel poverty and make progress towards net zero 2050.

Up to £630 million of grant funding awarded to successful local authorities to help them deliver HUG 2.

  • Local Authority Delivery Phase 3 (LAD3) scheme for low-income homes heated by mains gas
  • Home Upgrade Grant Phase 1 (HUG1) and Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) scheme for low-income households off the gas grid

Different local authorities will deliver the funding in different ways - so you will need to check with your council if you’re eligible.

Check if your council has received funding through this scheme.

Projects participating in the first phase of funding must be delivered by 31 September 2023.

The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund will upgrade a significant amount of the social housing stock currently below EPC D up to that standard.

Wave 1 of the SHDF awarded around £179m of funding, delivering from 2022 to 2023.

Wave 2.1 of the SHDF has allocated £778 million of funding for the period 2022/23 to 2024/25 to local authorities, combined authorities, registered providers of social housing and registered charities that own social housing to install energy efficiency upgrades in their housing stock in England that is currently below an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) D rating.

If your property is eligible, your social housing provider will contact you.

Support through your energy company

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) is a requirement for energy suppliers to help households reduce the costs of their home heating by fitting energy-saving measures.

Different energy suppliers have different amounts of support and offer different types of improvements - so you will need to check with your energy company if you’re eligible.
